How was your LO over the weekend? Any victories or set-backs?

We were doing pretty good during the week and then had two fluorescent green diaps and like 4 bloody. Ugh...I'm beyond frustrated. I can not eliminate anything else from my diet!!! I am just hoping that by the end of these two weeks (next Monday) that he will be back to normal. So this week is a big week for us. Oh...and tomorrow is 1 month no dairy for me....you'd think we'd be seeing a dramatic change by now, wouldn't you?

  1. I'm new to the check-in (sixes on the bump). We just started the no dairy, soy, wheat, egg, nut diet on Thursday evening. Friday night he had a scream fit and on Saturday night too, with bloody diapers to follow. We haven't had screaming since but had 4 bloody/mucusy diapers today. I'm glad this check-in was pointed out to me, I'm sure it'll be great help. Is there a place I can ask questions?

  2. I took Ava to the doctor on Thursday and after 3 weeks of being dairy/soy free, she still has blood in her stools. Pedi wants me to meet with a nutritionist and that is the only suggestion from her. After doing research, I am looking for a GI specialist and will try and see them.

On a different note I am nervous about this weekend. We are going out of town and I guess I will be bringing lots of my own snacks and staples to eat. No eating out for me!

  3. Rashel-just ask away and one of us will respond

Leslie-I hope the GI can offer more advice. Hopefully the bad diaps are going to disappear for the both of us since we are both coming up to a month of this!

  4. Ok, thanks! I was wondering how often, if a baby has an allergy to soy, do they also have an allergy to soybean oil and soy lecithin? I found this 'butter' and wondered if I could use it safely: http://www.earthbalancenatural.com/#/products/olive-oil/
If not, is there any sort of non-dairy spread that can be used?
I hope you guys get answers soon since you're a month into it.

  5. I am staying away from everything soy right now. I heard that soy lecithin can be tolerated by some babies..but not the soybean oil. (this was stated to me by a dietician). This spread also contains soy protein. I personally would stay away from it. I have not found (but haven't looked very hard) for a butter substitute yet.

Here's some good links to make sure you're not accidentally getting in dairy/soy: (sorry, no way to make them clicky)

  6. we've been doing good! Sometimes there's a bit of mucous, but mostly she has good diapers and doesn't cry in pain anymore

  7. Rashel, I'm so sorry to see that you're still dealing with this too! I was going to email you to see how things were going and to tell you about this check in. Glad you heard about it. I haven't found a completely soy free butter alternative either. Sucks.

Cassandra, several nurses, a LC, and other moms have said that florescent green is ok... it's better if it's seedy and not mucousy. We had one of those while at the pedi and it was declared 'normal'. Another while I was at a BF group and the LC said normal too. I'm sorry to hear about the bloody ones after you saw progress last week.

Over the weekend we were seeing pretty mucousy diapers but yesterday he had 4 normal ones!! I was so happy about it that I wanted to tell everyone I saw :) It had been so long since we had 'normal' that I actually googled images of BF baby poop to compare what his looked like. Yes, I'm that desperate.

I hope everyone is having a better day!
