How was celebrating Easter with MSPI?

Of course, assuming you celebrated. If not, please just share how your weekend was :)

My MIL rocks...she breastfed both her children and I guess my DH was allergic to wheat...so she completely understands the boat I am in.

She checked labels on the ham (some have a lot of preservatives and extra stuff) and she said she went with a bone-in ham because it didn't have all of the "extra" stuff. She even read the label for the glaze and it had soybean oil in it so she made her own glaze!!!! She made all of the veggies and potatoes, sides, etc. with no butter, milk, etc. and told the family that they would need to season their sides to taste! She is such a great MIL...I am very very lucky! She even had a special lunch for me when I arrived Saturday (fresh chicken from the butcher with her homemade tomato sauce...nothing canned because she didn't want to take the chance of something "slipping" in there on accident!!!).

So the Easter dinner was great. Then here comes the HORRIBLE part.....me and DH get home and I love love love Bailey's Irish Cream and haven't had one since before getting pregnant. So I tell him to pour me a glass...I take about 4 sips and go 'OH MY GOD..WHY AM I DRINKING THIS?" I don't know what the heck I was thinking...well, I wasn't apparently. I went 5 frickin weeks with NO dairy and this is what happens? So I feel absolutely horrible/guilty/stupid and am kicking myself in the arse all day now!

On another note...I call the GI specialist tomorrow (Monday..I'm writing this Sun night) for our check-in. Looking back on my logs...he still hasn't had a drastic change in his diapers. DH says that he doesn't think it's dairy since I've been dairy-free for 5 weeks and we still have issues. So, I'm curious to see what the GI specialist will say (since I've been on the complete elimination diet for 2 weeks now).

So hopefully the GI Specialist has some good advice since I don't know what else I can do with my diet. I can't see adding foods back in if we're not 100% better yet. And now with my bit of dairy intake today...who knows how far I've set us back now. Ugh...stupid frickin dairy!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and can't wait to hear some good news about your LO's!

  1. aww...I'm sure 4 sips won't set you back far! It's not a lot, don't beat yourself up over it. Maybe you could talk to the doctor about how you pumped and fed him bottles and got good diapers? Maybe experiment with that?
This weekend was the first time it was hard for me not to have dairy. I love easter candy and cookies and cake. None of which I could have. DH's aunt was really nice about making sure there were safe foods for me to eat. I ended up eating some ham and that was about it though (I'm a picky eater). But DD has been on the right track so it makes it worth it. I had to explain it only a little to some people, but they were all great about it. So we had a good Easter! DD was even good with everyone holding her and was a happy baby!

  3. Cassandra, I hope those sips won't set you back at all. Sounds like a tiny bit so I agree with pp, don't beat yourself up over it.

Easter was great! We spent it with my side of our family and it was wonderful to introduce Ethan to our extended family. He did really well with being passed around to people he hadn't ever met. Seeing this helped my anxiety about daycare a little. He starts next week :(

My aunt made sure that there were foods for me to eat (plain chicken breast, plain sweet potato that I added brown sugar and olive oil to). I also brought along some of the Enjoy Life Foods cookies and granola so that I could have dessert. Seeing the Easter candy and all the amazing food was tough but I made it through.

We've been seeing results ... mostly normal diapers and an occasional one with mucous. I'm SO curious to know what was causing the bad diapers. It could be that it FOREVER for the dairy to leave our systems since I've been dairy free for 6 weeks. Or that little bit of soy I was consuming until 2 weeks ago was the culprit. I was eating bagels with guar gum b/c I didn't know it was soy. Or if he's allergic to eggs/wheat since I cut those out nearly 2 weeks ago.

This week I'm going to introduce his vitamin (Tri-Vi-Sol) to see if that changes anything. It has caramel coloring. I have hear that caramel flavoring is dairy but caramel coloring is not, but I don't know if that is correct. I've also heard that some soy allergic individuals cannot tolerate vitamin E. Tri-Vi-Sol has vitamin E in it. If he has a reaction I'm going to buy Just D liquid vitamin instead.

I hope everyone is seeing results SOON!

  4. good to know about about possible soy in the vitamin! we are starting her after her 2 month appt. because I don't want her to have any bloody diapers when she is tested, in case there was a reaction.

  5. SP/Amanda-
I mentioned the pumping/bottle feeding to the GI on our 1st appt and basically the guy laughed at me..literally! I am waiting for him to return my 2 phone calls today since he told me to call and check in with him today. I am at my wits end here.

Oh...and no blood for 5 days now. Hoping my B&C didn't do any damage...no signs of it yet.

  6. This weekend was kinda easy and kinda hard. My DH and I host all the holiday dinners and so I was in charge of cooking. That part was easy, since I knew what I was eating. However, the hard part was all the easter candy everywhere and the amazing (that's what everyone said) chocolate cake and cheesecake that were sitting in my kitchen. I was hoping they tasted like crap...haha! LO has had many bloody diapers. Sometimes I almost feel like there are more then when we started the diet. Does the soy protein stay in as long as the milk one? I'm keeping a food diary, but am having trouble keeping up with a mood and diaper diary for LO. Wouldn't I need to put the times when I eat and the times of his fussiness/bloody diapers in order to find a correlation? Or can he still have cramping/bloody symptoms from the proteins that are still there from before the diet? Meaning the things I'm eating might not be necessarily the things making him upset or have those kind of diapers? I just get so sad seeing him upset. At least I can comfort him...I've found a way to hold him with his legs pushed up and it seems to help. We're only on day 11 of the diet and I'm hungry!! I look up to you gals for going as long as you have!

  7. Rashel - keep sticking with it honey! It will get better! The blood will have ups and downs as far as days go...some days you'll have none and then BAM...you'll be stuck with 4 in one day. Just keep away from dairy/soy for 2-4 weeks and then you should be good. We are FINALLY looking like we got rid of all the blood...5 days now of no blood! Yay for him! So, if that tells you how long it takes to actually get out of their system...use me/DS as an example.

I've found some brown rice bread at my local health/organic food store...it's not bad if you toast it. I'm mashing up avocados for a spread so it's not such a dry and plain sandwich.

The more you do the "diet"..the more you get creative! Just stick with it..it's worth it to get to not seeing blood anymore!

    Good luck!
