It's been a while!

(now that song is going to be in my head!)

Missed ya ladies....how is everyone doing?

Alexander is growing like a weed....no more noodle arms/legs, he's all pudgy now! He just got over a bad week of bloody/mucousy green diaps. I think it might be caramel coloring (tried the Tri-vi-Sol for 1st time) or eggs. I am doing an elimination diet until he has good diaps again for a full week. Last time I thought it was hamburger, but I haven't had any beef for about 2.5 weeks.

But he's doing better now, still the happy little guy he normally is! Can't wait to hear how everyone is doing!

  1. I am new and joining this check in. My DS is 2 months and we found bloody diapers a couple of weeks ago. Right then we went into the Dr.'s and he told me to cut out dairy and to check back up in a week. So we went to the Dr's last week and there is a little blood still but that is probably what it is. We go for his 2 month check up today and we will see if there is still blood. If there is, then the pedi might tell me to start weaning and do formula. I hope hope hope that I do not have to do this. I am glad this blog is here that I can express my feelings and read about other mothers going through this also. Its hard to cut out dairy but anything to make my LO happy!

  2. Hi! I've missed the check ins. DS is doing good. The past 2 weeks he has been happy all the time. It is great. He still has the occasional green diaper, but it doesn't seem to bother him. He does have eczema which the doctor says is an allergy. She wanted me to watch my peanut intake at his 4 month appt. I never just eat nuts, but I do eat fried food from restaurants. We also started bathing him with white Dove bar soap per our pedi and that has really helped.

  3. Wow, it has been awhile. So, this is where we're at. I've been on the elimination diet now for 10 weeks! No dairy, soy, eggs, wheat, or nuts. I went to an allergist and it was a waste of time. Said it's intolerances and not allergies. We went on formula for a week straight and his diapers went to 'normal'. I started BFing again and back to mucusy/watery/green diapers. So we're on 3 bottles a day of Allimentum. I'll be starting one bottle of BM next week and 2 formula. I've introduced wheat back and he seems to be ok with that. I'm 10lbs below pre-pregnancy weight, so that's good. But, I feel weak all the time. I don't feel like I'm getting what I really need. It's very hard. I miss so many foods, but not like I thought I would. I use guacamole instead of sour cream and not sure I'll use sour cream again. I found a great chocolate ice cream made with coconut milk and no soy. It's yummy! I eat tons of rice and corn. Rice milk, rice cereal, rice pasta, rice. Corn tortilla chips, fritos, corn, etc. I eat Boar's Head deli meats (called them to verify). I eat at Olive Garden off their Glueten free menu and use oil and balsmaic vinegarette on their salad minus crutons and cheese. I eat Starbursts for my candy fix. And I eat lots of burgers without buns or cheese, mix it up with lettuce and tomatoe, ketchup and mustard.
However, even doing all of this, I'm wondering if the whole time my problem has been a foremilk/hindmilk imabalance. Check these websites out:
    wwwl.llli.org/FAQ/foremilk.html
    breastfeeding.hypermart.net/toomuchmilk.html
They are ALL the same symptoms. Apparently Dr's get them mixed up ALL the time. They both describe our situations to a T! I might be making an appt with a breastfeeding expert Dr. here soon. Any thoughts?
Sorry your son had that episode Cassandra! Hopefully it goes away quickly. Would love to hear everyone elses updates!!

  4. I also thought it was a foremilk/hindmilk imbalance....but with putting things back into my diet and seeing very definite bad results...ruled it out. I was soooo hoping that was it. A way you can test it (as a LC told me) is to pump 2 bottles, let the hindmilk get separated and scrape the hindmilk from one bottle and put it into the other bottle....giving LO a double dose of hindmilk. Do that a couple times in a row and see if they improve! It's worth a shot, so you know for sure at least!

  5. On another note...since DS is allergic to wheat...I think he's been having reactions to Nana's cookies, since they also produce wheat items at their factory. Just thought I'd pt that out there if anyone else's LO has issues with wheat.

  6. Hi ladies!
Glad to see the check in again. We're hanging in there. Ethan was doing SO well until we went on vacation. A relative must have accidentally used cooking spray or butter when preparing chicken. He was up screaming that night and had mucousy diapers for days. We are still seeing some mucous maybe 1-2 diapers a day but they are improving.

Ethan is most likely allergic to eggs too. I added them back into my diet for 2 days and he had a reaction. Once he heals from our vacation mishap I'll try wheat.

To those who are struggling with eczema, have you found anything to help? We tried Aquaphor and while it soothed his patches, it didn't clear up completely. We tried California Baby Calendula cream and it seemed to be working really well (again not clear but much improved). I had to put it on 3 times a day and went through a tub of it in less than 3 weeks. We saw a new pedi and he prescribed a non-steroid cream. We pick that up on Monday & I'm really hoping it works. Ethan's face and head are COVERED in eczema right now.

Rashel, thanks for posting about what you are eating. What brand of rice pasta have you tried. What are you putting on the pasta (a sauce or oil)? What kind of Boarshead lunch meat? I was tempted to try one yesterday. As I was checking out the deli case I saw one Boarshead turkey said 'all natural' and listed no dairy/milk but others didn't. And Starbursts!! That just made my day! I'll have to check them out. Also, what's the brand of icecream? Sorry for all the questions!

    Some sweet/snack suggestions:
Clif's Kids Organic Twisted Fruit, Real Fruit Rope. YUMMY! They have a serving of fruit, no allergens, and actually help me feel full. Fantastic to throw in a bag for a snack on the go.

Stretch Island Fruit Co The Original Fruit Leather. Similar as above.

Yummy Earth Organic Candy Drops - great to have candy since I can't have mints/gum.

Cherrybrook Kitchen pancake and chocolate cake mixes. I used olive oil and real vanilla extract. Not as great as a regular choc cake but good!

Enjoy Life Foods chocolate bars. There is one with crispy rice in it and it's like a Nestle Crunch bar!!

  7. Oh Christina, I'm so sorry Ethan's eczema is acting up so bad. Do you think it's from what you think happened while on vacation? I hope it gets better soon!
I'm eating DeBoles Gluten free Rice Pasta and I get the angel hair pasta so it's real thin. I use regular jarred speghetti sauce. Usually Organic, like a roasted garlic flavor or marinara. Just can't use a cheese flavored one. Even Prego have sauces we can eat. I fill it up with tons of meat so it's real filling and lots of protein. For Boar's Head, I eat the salami, maple/honey ham, black forest ham, roast beef. I think the bologna has milk and like 3 other odd meats I don't like. And I believe all of them are gluten free. I roll them up and dip them in mustard for lunch. I eat it with a pickle or two, bbq chips, and applesauce. One week, I gained half a pound and I'm pretty sure it had to do with all the startbursts I was eating...haha! Otherwise I've been losing every week. The ice cream is Purely Decadent...here's the site for the one I eat: www.turtlemountain.com/products/purely_decadent_Coconut_Milk_Chocolate.html It's YUMMY! Sounds like you found quite a few sweets to curb any cravings. I didn't like any of the Enjoy Life stuff, wonder if I'd like the crispy ones. Oh yeah, I made some meatballs the other night too. I used crushed rice krispies instead of bread crumbs and no egg and they rocked! The pancake mix...where did you get that and what kind of flour is it? How do you make pancakes without eggs? I'd love some pancakes!! Good luck with Ethan! Talk to you soon!

  8. So Addy's diapers have been green for a MONTH! I don't know what's causing it, but since there was no blood and she was sleeping okay, we didn't worry much. But yesterday she had a yellow diaper! We think it was the bottle of frozen BM D gave her yesterday morning. It was pumped when we were having good diapers. So I'm going to cut out my Prenatal vitamins again and see if it is them. The only thing I've had this weekend that I normally have everyday is oatmeal, apple juice, pita bread and pepsi. Since I ate all that when we had good diapers, I don't think it's any of those. I didn't start my prenatals until around may anyway and it might have taken a week for the bad stuff to build in my system. So here is hoping. Unforunately, because her food is going through her so fast, she's not growing as fast as I would like. The Doctor isn't worried yet, but I want her to be over 13 pounds by thursday (her appointment).

  9. well, ds is doing GREAT! i am back to thinking that the whole thing is fm/hm inbalance- i make a LOT of milk. so im back to block nursing and ive added dairy back, ect. he hasnt had any green/watery dipes since i started giving him rice cereal once a day about three weeks ago- i dont know if it keeps things from going through him so fast or what but i guess im just glad to think its fm/hm and not an allergry now

  10. Rashel, thank you so much for replying! GREAT idea with the meatballs. I'm going to try that out.
The pancake is a mix by Cherrybrook Kitchens.
    http://www.cherrybrookkitchen.com/products/gf_pancake.php
All you need to add is rice milk and olive oil. I used real maple syrup since I'm not sure what's in the others. The mix is sweet already so I only need a little syrup. They aren't big fluffy pancakes (more similar to crepes) but still do the job.

Also, can you share more about your appt with the allergist please? What did they tell you? What's the difference between allergy and intolerance? We're scheduled to see one in July.
    Thanks!!!!
